Random tools for the classroom
Pick a name, form working groups, and set classroom order without turning a small teaching task into spreadsheet work. Each tool starts with the decision a teacher needs to make, not a generic randomizer with classroom colors.

What you can solve here
Call on students without losing the cycle
Choose from the students who are present and keep the difference between a one-off pick and a no-repeat classroom round visible.
Make groups for the lesson in front of you
Create pairs or near-equal groups for discussion, labs, peer feedback, reading responses, and short collaborative work.
Give the room a clear order
Randomize presentations, speakers, or activity turns, then copy or display the result without exposing the input controls.
Choose well
Start with the classroom job
Use the name picker when one person should be called next, a group generator when everyone needs a place, and a presentation-order tool when the whole class needs a visible sequence. Those jobs share random foundations, but they need different controls and results.
Random output is a starting point, not a teaching judgment. Remove absent students, decide whether repeat partners matter, and review the result for accessibility, safety, language, and learning needs before showing it to the room.
Before you run
Three working principles
Use the roster that is present now
Remove absent students before generating. Distinguish duplicate display names with an initial or another classroom-safe identifier.
Name the kind of fairness you need
A random mix, fewer repeat partners, and instructionally balanced groups are different objectives. Choose the workflow that matches the lesson.
Review before projecting
The tool cannot know accommodations, conflicts, safeguarding needs, or the teaching context behind a roster.
